Bill Gooney RIP
The Moycarkey Borris GAA community are saddened to hear yesterday of the death of Bill Gooney, Ballytarsna, Horse and Jockey.
An accomplished hurler and a great clubman all his life Bill will be sadly missed by his family and all our community. Bill played midfield on the Moycarkey Borris team that won the club’s inaugural County Minor A Hurling Championship in 1968. Described by his teammates as a very intelligent playmaker Bill played on the club’s Senior Hurling team for many years. Bill lined out at midfield against Roscrea in the drawn County Senior Hurling Final of 1982. Unfortunately he received a hand injury in that game and he wasn’t able to play in the replay. Bill’s consistency over that stellar season contributed hugely to his team’s County and Munster Senior Hurling Championship Wins.
Our sincere sympathies to Bill’s family, former teammates, neighbours and friends.
