Eamon Darmody RIP……. Sadly one of the greatest sticks-men ever to don the red and gold of Moycarkey Borris GAA has died after a long illness. Born in Galbertstown Eamon’s prodigious skill’s made a uniquely significant contribution to the team’s he played in. A County Minor in 1972, Eamon won two County Minor Medals with Moycarkey, the first one in 1968 as a 14 year old sub goalie and the second in 1972 as a star midfielder.
Eamon won a County Intermediate Football medal in 1980. He is best remembered as a stylist wing back on the Moycarkey Borris County & Munster Winning Senior Hurling Team of 1982 and the Centenary County Senior Hurling Winning team of 1984. Eamon was awarded the man of the match award for the 1984 Final.
Eamon remained close to his former team mates all his life and only recently joined them to view memorable video footage from the 1980’s.
Our sincere sympathies to Eamon’s Wife Mary, Family, Teammates and Friends.
