Mid Junior A Hurling Championship Round 1

Moycarkey-Borris 1-16 Boherlahan-Dualla 0-16

By Ed Donnelly

Moycarkey-Borris got their Junior A Hurling Championship campaign off to a good start after a hard earned three point victory over Boherlahan-Dualla at an overcast Littleton GAA grounds on Monday evening. The sides were level three times in the opening 10 minutes before a Joey Doran goal put Moycarkey in front by 1-4 to 0-5. The home side hit a purple patch after their green flag and led by 1-11 to 0-7 after 22 minutes. Boherlahan’s play improved coming up to the interval and they scored four unanswered points to leave the half-time score 1-11 to 0-11.

Scores were harder to come by in the third quarter with both sides adding a point apiece. Moycarkey would eventually get back on top as points from Darren Flood and Diarmuid Maher (3) put them ahead by 1-16 to 0-12 after 50 minutes. As was the case in the first half, Boherlahan finished the stronger team with four unanswered points to leave just a goal between the sides heading in to injury time. Boherlahan dropped a couple of balls in to the Moycarkey square late on but failed to get an opportunity for an equalising goal and Moycarkey held out for a three point win.

Boherlahan will rue their shooting on the night, hitting 13 wides (to Moycarkey’s 9). While Moycarkey will look to improve their discipline having conceded 15 frees to Boherlahan’s 9 over the hour. Plenty to work on for both sides going in to Round 2.
