Moycarkey Borris GAA Club are once again running our fundraising Golf Classic, on tomorrow, Friday, June 30th and Saturday, July 1st, in Thurles Golf Club. We are hosting ‘The Match’ tomorrow around 12.20 pm.
It's a legendary match up, the stuff of sporting lore. A summer's day, as Tipperary and Kilkenny teams walk out on the freshly cut grass to test their skill in opposition. Only this time it won't take place in Semple Stadium, Nowlan Park or indeed Croke Park. This time, this rivalry will be played out on the fairways of Thurles Golf Club! As part of the upcoming Moycarkey-Borris GAA Club Golf Classic on June 30th, a Kilkenny team lead by eight time All Ireland winner Eddie Brennan will take on a Tipperary outfit lead by former Tipperary and Tommevara hurler, Willie Ryan. With both men now involved with the Moycarkey Borris senior hurlers, it was the perfect opportunity to renew old rivalries! Joining Willie will be former Tipperary player and his own clubmen Benny Dunne and Tommy Dunne, as well as John Devane (Clonoulty Rossmore).
Eddie has called on the services of James Stephens legend Eoin Larkin and Brian Kelly, in the quest to topple the Tipp lads in their own back yard. However, like any good Kilkenny and Tipperary game, there's a surprise in the team selection! Brennan has also drafted in his former Graigue Ballycallan coach, and Tipperary All Star Footballer, Declan Browne. Brennan says he is an "honourary Cat" after his five years at the helm of the Kilkenny club.
The Match will have its own prize on offer, sponsored by Matty Walsh, of MW Hire Group, who knows plenty about Tipperary and Kilkenny rivalry with his business in Urlingford. There's sure to be plenty of long pucks, tidy wrist work and sharp shooting on the day.
